Course Description
The RHS Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Horticulture is a modular award comprising assessments of both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The Certificate is run on a part time mode of study, three hours per week over a two year period. In addition seminars, workshops and guest lectures are arranged to enhance the formal learning that has taken place and broaden the specific knowledge to the student. Its aim is to give the student a valuable vocational qualification that will support a job application, achieve career enhancement and allow full progression onto the RHS Level 3 Diploma in Horticulture Entry Requirements Entry to the RHS Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Horticulture is open to anyone, school leavers, mature students, horticultural professionals and the dedicated amateur. However an appropriate Level 2 horticultural qualification would be advantageous. The recommended route to this qualifcation is either from the RHS Level 2 Certificate in Horticulture or an equivalent level of study. Course Content The RHS Level 3 Advanced Certificate is awarded upon successful completion of three modules covering the following areas:?Plant Propagation ?Growing Media and Plant Nutrition ?Plant Taxonomy ?Morphology and Anatomy ?Plant Health and Plant Physiology. In addition candidates select one optional modules from:?Plant Production?Planning, construction of Gardens & Garden restoration?Plant selection, establishment and maintenance. How will I be assessed? Theoretical modules are examined in February and July each year and the compulsory practical skills assessment is formally examined annually at a range of centres in the UK and Republic of Ireland. There are three written modular examinations to be taken each lasting two hours, and a three and a half hour stand alone practical examination taken at an approved regional examination centre.
