Course Description
The MSc in Forensic Linguistics is a programme aimed at police officers, lawyers and other investigative and legal professionals as well as those with an academic interest in forensic linguistics. On completion, graduates will have acquired knowledge about the application of linguistic knowledge and methods to all aspects of the legal process including investigation and providing evidence for court. They will also have gained knowledge of theoretical frameworks that underpin forensic linguistics and the legal framework which participants in the legal system are subject to. The routes through the programme are available for those with no linguistic background as well as those with a relevant first degree. Under University wide rules it may be possible to accept applicants with professional experience in lieu of a first degree. The MSc in Forensic Linguistics is delivered as a predominantly distance learning programme with optional short courses offered at Aston University. It is possible to study the programme entirely at a distance from anywhere in the world. The programme includes taught modules and a dissertation which earns 60 credits. Entry Requirements
Normally a good UK Honours Degree (minimum of an upper second class) in English, Linguistics or a related discipline or an overseas degree recognised by Aston University, plus two references.
