Course Description
This is a professional qualifying course in social work and is intended for graduates who are committed to a future career in social work. It is designed to prepare you to work in all social care settings (residential, field, day care, healthcare and education) and sectors (statutory, voluntary and private) and in multidisciplinary settings and work teams. The course is highly distinctive because it is delivered through collaboration between service users, carers, employers, practitioners, experienced university tutors and leading national and international social work researchers. This strong and established partnership means that we offer a course that is relevant to the needs of service users and employers, is challenging, dynamic and innovative for students and produces reflective and research-minded social workers who are able to offer high quality services. Modules include: - Service User and Carer Perspectives - Research Informed Practice - Assessment, Planning, Intervention and Evaluation - Law and Social Work - Professional Social Work - Contemporary Debates in Social Work - Plus one option module You will also undertake two 100 day placements in appropriate social care settings. Learning and teaching is delivered through seminars, group work, practice learning, lectures, role plays, guided studies, e-based learning and case scenarios. Assessment involves a combination of written assignments including reflective writing, a practice-based portfolio, practice-based learning through direct observations, oral questioning, case studies and report writing. On completion of this course, graduates are eligible to register with the General Social Care Council (GSCC) as qualified social workers. This is the professional qualification required to practice as a social worker in the UK. This course allows you to work in either children and families or adult services and in the statutory, independent and voluntary sector.
