Course Description

THIS COURSE WILL APPEAL TO PEOPLE WITH AN HONOURS DEGREE (OR EQUIVALENT) WISHING TO CHANGE CAREER. Audiologists work with patients to identify and assess hearing andor balance disorders, recommending and providing appropriate rehabilitation and management. In the current economic climate, where redundancies are rife, this course enables people who already hold a degree in a science or related area to change career in a short space of time. There is also currently a shortage of audiologists in the UK (especially in Scotland), so job opportunities for audiologists are good. Structure: The course is modular and can be studied on a full-time basis only. The MScPgDip leads to eligibility to register as an audiologist with the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP) in the UK. The course is delivered at QMU with placements in hospitals throughout Scotland, the north of England and Northern Ireland. Course Covers: The clinical studies area is central and includes clinical skills development and block clinical placements in each year and between both years of the course. Students rotate through 34 weeks of placements. Clinical work is underpinned by modules in: - Clinical Audiological Studies - Communication Studies - Psychology - Biological Sciences Plus - Dissertation (MSc only) Careers: Graduates may work within the National Health Service and private sector. There are also career opportunities for research in universities and research institutes. Further Info: If you are interested in this course please contact Lizanne Steenkamp with further information about your previous studies or experience as we look at each application individually.
