Course Description
This is an intensive, practical course and is ideal if you have some media experience and want to work as a broadcast journalist in the UK?s media ? primarily within the radio or television sector. It is recognised by the Broadcast Journalism Training Council ? the industry training body. What will I study? Modules include: Radio and TV Skills Broadcast Journalism and Law Reporting Institutions Newsroom Practice and Professional Studies. All modules on this course are heavily taught and intensively learnt. For example, Newsroom Practice incorporates three weeks? teaching of advanced radio and journalism skills prior to running a two week radio station. Professional Studies is an extended time on placement. How is my work assessed? The course is assessed through practice as far as possible, for example, by doing live radio programmes and news bulletins. But there is an examination for the Law module and an essay as part of Reporting Institutions. Can I study further? The course is vocational and equips you with the skills required to work as a broadcast journalist. What are my employability prospects? Graduates from this course have a very high employment rate. The industry is largely a freelance one and graduates have been successful in all areas of the BBC (radio, TV and online), commercial radio and TV.
