Course Description
These are modular eLearning-based courses specifically designed for paediatricians, GPs, nurses, therapists and other healthcare professionals involved in Child Health. Created to address the training recommendations of The Kennedy report for the Department of Health on children?s services, these CPD accredited courses offer a sound theoretical background to the principles of evidence-based medicine and critical evaluation,broad coverage of the scientific basis and early life origins of childhood disease and innovations in diagnosis and treatment within paediatrics. There are opportunities to explore ideas around leadership development and the organisation and management of paediatric services. Students will also develop skills in teaching, learning and education research within a paediatric setting and to experience the benefits of working and learning within a diverse multiprofessional team. The modules are designed to deliver flexible learning suited to the demanding lives of healthcare professionals. All comprise short blocks of face to face teaching including lectures, workshops and clinical attachments supported by a Virtual Learning Environment of webbased exercises including interactive virtual patients, online tasks, discussion fora as well as continuous access to video recordings of all face to face sessions. The following modules are offered: PG Certificate ? Organising and Delivering High Quality Care in Paediatrics and Child Health ? Science and Evidence in Paediatric Practice ? Nutrition, Growth and Development of the Child ? Recognition and Management of the Seriously Ill Child PG Diploma The PG Cert modules plus four optional modules selected from: ? Allergy and Immunology ? Infectious Diseases and Host Defence ? Paediatric Ventilation ? Serious Infection and Critical Care in Children ? Adolescent Health ? Child Public Health and Social Paediatrics MSc The PG Diploma plus: ? Research Project, including a taught component on research methods and a Dissertation The optional modules can also be taken as stand-alone short courses.
