Course Description

The Periodontology MClinDent provides a sound and intensive knowledge of the basic principles of periodontal diseases and the management of advanced periodontal cases. Particular emphasis is placed on achieving theoretical as well as clinical knowledge, and stimulating critical and analytical thinking in both the clinical and research environment. What and how will I learn? Students are able to assess and manage the periodontal needs of a patient, through an intensive knowledge of and clinical expertise in the presentation, diagnosis and management of all known diseases and disorders of the periodontium, and in the diagnosis, case selection, treatment planning and surgical aspects of oral implantology. Degree Structure Students undertake courses to the value of 540 credits. Year One: Core courses (180 credits). Year Two: Core courses (180 credits). Year Three: Core courses (120 credits), dissertation (60 credits). Core Modules Clinical Science Principles of Treatment Clinical Care Scientific Basis of Periodontology Periodontal Therapy 1: Non-surgical and Basic Surgical Therapy Periodontal Clinical Care Periodontal Therapy 2: Advanced Periodontal Therapy Periodontal Therapy 3: Implants and Restorative Dentistry Dissertationreport All students undertake an independent research project which culminates in a dissertation of approximately 13,000-15,000 words. Options All courses are compulsory. Assessment is through written, oral and practical examinations, clinical assessments, case presentations, patient logbooks and the dissertation. Why should I study this degree at UCL? Entry Requirements All applicants must normally hold an approved dental qualification and have a minimum of two years clinical experience. All candidates wishing to train on a programme leading to a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) must have a minimum of two years of post-graduate experience working as a registered dentist and be eligible for full registration with the General Dental Council. Where equivalent qualifications or experience are being offered, it is essential that the candidate provides appropriate written confirmation and attaches this to their application. Entry Requirements

All applicants must normally hold an approved dental qualification and have a minimum of two years' clinical experience post-qualification.
