Course Description

NVQ Level 3 in Youth Work A One Year Part Time Programme of Study This NVQ is designed for youth support workers helping young people aged between 11 and 25 to develop personally and socially. Endorsed by the National Youth Agency as appropriate qualifications for youth support workers, they are aimed at people working in a range of settings with young people. These can vary from youth clubs and centres to schools, colleges and voluntary youth organisations What do I need to join the Programme? There are no set entry requirements and are relevant to people working on a full-time, part-time, paid or voluntary basis. This NVQ provides learners with proof that they are competent in their work and have the skills and knowledge needed to do their job well. The level 3 qualification is suitable for individuals who work directly with young people in front line services but also have more leadership responsibility for the development and promotion of the service or agency. The level 2 qualification is appropriate to people who are 16 and upwards and the level 3 to people who are 18 and upwards. Admission will be by interview and individual guidance will be given in relation to the right level and award. Each applicant will be required to complete a skills analysis. What will I do on the Programme? You will attend 3 hourly workshop sessions on a fortnightly basis. The workshop sessions cover the underpinning knowledge needed for the NVQ level 3 in Youth Work. The award is made up of 8 units, 4 mandatory and 4 option units. The range of option units available allows candidates to select units which match their role. During the workshops you will gain knowledge in relation to the mandatory units: B.1 - Enable young people to explore and develop their values and self- respect. B.3 - Enable young people to work effectively in groups. B.4 - Enable young people to use their learning to enhance their future development. D.3 - Manage your work and create effective working relationships. How will I be Assessed? You will collect evidence of experience and competence during regular working practice and complete a portfolio of work. You will be assessed in the workplace on a regular basis. You will be assigned an assessor who will directly observe your practical work in the workplace and who will provide feedback on your developing skills. What can I do at the end of the Programme? You may be able to access higher education courses.
