Course Description
Landscape NVQ Level 2 in Amenity Horticulture - Landscape Myerscough reference: 07N2LNDCXW12P Course Length: Work based delivery undertaken over 12-18 month period Venue: Work Based About the Course The course comprises the NVQ level 2 in Amenity Horticulture, Key Skills and 3 additional occupationally relevant qualifications. The NVQ consists of seven units covering a range of landscape skills and related practices. The main objectives of the course are to ensure the development of practical skills, related background knowledge and health and safety issues and procedures. Fees The training is fully funded by the Learning Skills Council subject to eligibility criteria being met List of Units The NVQ level 2 qualification consists of 7 units Core units (mandatory and essential) ? Monitor and maintain health and safety ? Develop personal performance and maintain working relationships Optional units (learners choose five from the following list); ? Install drainage systems ? Construct water feature ? Construct and maintain boundaries and paths ? Construct new features and structures ? Maintain plants outdoors ? Establish plants outdoors ? Use and maintain machinery and equipment Industrial / Work Experience All trainees are required to be in vocationally related employment for a minimum of 30 hours per week. Possible Careers / Jobs Landscaper Gardening Assistant Self employed gardener Progression NVQ Level III Amenity Horticulture - Landscape or Advanced Apprenticeship in Amenity Horticulture (landscape) Additional Qualifications Learners undertaking this course as part of an apprenticeship programme will also undertake Key Skills Qualifications. These are: ? Working with others ? Improving own learning and performance ? Application of number* ? Communication skills* *If recent GCSE qualifications include Maths and/or English at level C or above, these can be used as concessions in place of taking the Key skill qualification. In addition to these the learner will undertake the following vocational additional qualifications: ? Emergency first aid in the workplace (1 DAY COURSE) ? Two more occupationally relevant legislative courses (eg Applying and using pesticides, manual handling) Special Requirements The suitability of work placement providers for trainees is subject to a health and safety appraisal. This is reviewed regularly by Myerscough college staff. Suitable outdoor clothing and steel toe capped boots will be required.
