Course Description

The programme provides specialist analytical, design and management skills. Taught modules take place at the Camborne School of Mines projects are often company-based. The MSc provides skill enhancement for engineers and geologists already employed in the mining, minerals, quarrying and civil engineering industries. It is also suitable for geology and engineering graduates wishing to specialise in either of the following main study areas: mine and general management excavation (geotechnics and tunnelling). Programme structure Total credits required MSc: 180 PgDip: 120 Compulsory module Project and Dissertation (60) Option modules Four modules from: Fundamental Geotechnics (30) Tunnelling and Underground Excavation (30) Surface Excavation Design (30) Hazard and Risk Assessment (30) Mineral Resource Assessment (30) Mineral Extraction, Management and Environmental Impact of Mining (30) Environmental Assessment and Monitoring (30) Project Management, Finance and Appraisal (30) Four modules and a final project and dissertation (four months duration) are required for the MSc. Two modules and a final project and dissertation are required for the award of the PgDip. Assessment Modules are assessed by written examination supplemented by continuous assessment. You will also submit a dissertation of 15,000?20,000 words.
