Course Description

The School of Civil Engineering and Surveying offers a number of property related undergraduate, postgraduate and professional courses. Based in the award-winning Portland Building, the School shares its facilities with the School of Architecture, providing a vibrant and friendly community for both staff and students involved in the built and natural environments. The University of Portsmouth has delivered property courses for over 35 years and is one of the longest established Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) accredited centres. You will be taught by staff from a wide range of professional practice, including surveyors, architects, structural and civil engineers, economists, planners and lawyers. Their hands-on experience is reflected in the modern and diverse nature of this course, which provides you with a flexible degree programme that allows you to tailor the course to your own interests whilst acquiring a range of skills and experiences that will be of direct benefit in the workplace. Professional Accreditation The University of Portsmouth and the School of Environmental Design and Management has been designated ?partnership status? by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). We are therefore able to offer a number of undergraduate and postgraduate property courses that carry this accreditation, including the fast track MSc Property Development. Course Content The MSc Property Development course is a fast track conversion course intended for undergraduate students who are interested in following a career in the property sector and those already working in the property sector who want to gain a formal qualification. We offer both a cognate and a non-cognate programme of study allowing those from a non-technical background to study alongside students with knowledge of the construction industry. You can study this course in either full-time (12 months) or part-time (24 months) mode. Over the respective study period, the programme develops the themes of property development, property management and valuation through nine taught units and a dissertation: ? Property Design Principles ? Planning Law Procedures and Practice ? Property Law ? Valuation ? Advanced Valuation ? Research Design and Methods ? Dissertation
