Masters Degree , Construction And The Built Environment

Course Description

The MSc Project Management in the Built Environment has been designed to provide a broad understanding of the management processes and practices involved in the development and operation of the built environment and to develop the broad range of knowledge and applicational skills, required to manage in the built environment. The programme is designed to provide the basis for a career in, or to further develop an existing career in the built environment. It is aimed to meet the needs of students whose first degree is not necessarily cognate to the construction industry, who wish to join the built environment in one of the many management roles that do not require one of the specified professional qualifications, such as Civil Engineer, Chartered Surveyor or Chartered Architect. The pathway is built on a strong management theme, upon which specialist modules covering various management aspects and techniques encountered in the built environment are developed. There is an emphasis throughout the pathway on the practical application of these to management within the built environment. The pathway adopts the philosophy that every manager will develop their own unique approach to management, therefore the pathway is designed to enable and encourage each student to develop their own particular approach that will provide the basis for the life-long development of their management skills and career.. The pathway has been designed to develop a comprehensive understanding of the role of the manager, to develop and implement innovative management, organisational and technological approaches to management in the context of the organisations and projects in the built environment. The pathway, recognising the importance of teamwork in the success of organisations and projects, includes the development of knowledge and skills to lead and manage teams. It also recognises the growing importance of environmental influences on the built environment and the demand for health and safety. The Pathway is designed to meet the increasing demand for managers, both nationally and internationally, who are able to provide the increasingly sophisticated management required to meet the challenges of providing and managing the built environment.
