Course Description
This course provides graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to practice physiotherapy via an accelerated programme which builds on prior learning and experience. On completion, students are eligible to apply for registration with the Health Professions Council and membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. The course is also accredited by the American Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). This is a modular degree with a strong bias towards clinical practice - a minimum of 1000 hours over the course duration. Students gain an in-depth understanding of the concepts, principles and theories of: musculoskeletal therapy, cardiorespiratory therapy, neurological rehabilitation, client-based practice, analysis of human movement, international context of practice, practice evaluation and development and the research process. Learning is facilitated by group discussions, presentations, tutorial support and small practical classes within a supportive learning environment. Career prospects are excellent and graduates enjoy wide ranging opportunities in this varied, challenging and highly rewarding profession. Graduates of the School are in great demand, with excellent employment rates reflecting the strong international reputation the School has earned for producing quality health professionals. Applicants normally posess a 2:1 honours degree in a science subject (should contain human anatomy and physiology) such as biological or sports science. Experience of the research process is essential. All applicants who meet the admissions criteria must attend a successful interviewselection visit prior to the offer of a place on the course. This course is not appropriate for qualified physiotherapists who wish to undertake a postgraduate degree.
