Course Description

The global landscape for the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry is changing. The School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences is offering this masters programme aimed towards developing the skills required for prospective employees within this sector and has been developed following extensive discussions with the industry. The MSc in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology degree programme is designed for students wishing to pursue either a career in the pharmaceutical industry or an allied discipline. The course has been developed with the aim of giving graduates the necessary knowledge and practical skills to become valuable team members within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. The course is offered on a one year full time basis, taught over three terms. It includes 6 taught modules in the first two terms in which all lecture material will be provided on our VLE (virtual learning environment) to enable access. A research project occupies the whole of the third term in order to allow you to conduct a detailed investigation into a particular aspect of your choice. This course has a strong emphasis on developing skills which are important for the industry: Practical Skills - the School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences has excellent laboratory facilities, where students will gain hands-on experience of state of the art equipment, as used routinely by the industry. Industry Skills - to enhance employability it is vital that graduating students are familiar with the working of the industrial sector. These courses will allow you to develop the skills and knowledge required to prepare you for career progression in the industry. Research Skills - the School utilizesresearch informed teaching in all its postgraduate masters courses. During the course you will carry out a piece of research linked to themed research areas within the School. There may be a possibility of conducting these projects at approved facilities outside the School, both in the UK and in India
