Course Description

Our MSc in Management Science & Operational Research provides you with a balanced grounding in operational research, statistics, information technology and general management. It will enable you to analyse complex problems and improve the decision-making processes in industry, business and the public sector. As well as theoretical knowledge, you will also gain the practical experience that you need to progress with your career. You will learn how to employ a wide range of operational research and systems methods and techniques and how to use a range of relevant software. Core modules: Management Science & Operational Research Techniques Foundations of Management Business Statistics Spreadsheet Modelling Conducting Management Projects. Electives modules usually include (choose five): Mathematical Programming & Heuristics Simulation Methods Exploring Multivariate & Forecasting Models Comparative Efficiency Assessment Supporting Strategy Data Warehousing & Business Intelligence. You will also complete a project and dissertation, with the opportunity to gain valuable experience working on a real problem with the organisation concerned. Recent subjects have included: - Call centre performance measurement with BT - Branch location strategy for Abbey National - A review of AGFA quality systems - Automated credit systems at NatWest Bank - Database to support segmental analysis at IBM Funding from the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) enables us to provide financial support to a number of students from the UK and other European Union countries.
