Course Description

About the course This course is part of our full-time Masters in Management Programme. Investment Strategy considers the creation and management of wealth. The focus of this course is on ?adding value? for the corporation via three key linked modules, which develop financial and analytical skills, and offer personal and professional development. The course develops sequentially, beginning with consideration of the corporation?s financial strategy in theory and in practice. This is further developed by investigating how, at corporate level, a company creates wealth for its stakeholders. Finally, the issue of how wealth can be transferred from companies to individuals via the creation and management of investment portfolios is addressed. The course has a strong mix of theory and practice, and you will gain an in-depth understanding of the current issues concerning companies? financial strategies. Investment and Portfolio Management Consultancy Project The consultancy projects are an integral part of Nottingham Business School?s Management programme and have been successfully running for over 10 years. Throughout the project participants will develop the capacity to work together as a consultancy team through active participation in a real and live consultancy project. The precise focus will depend on the needs of the organisation (the client) and the availability of appropriate information, and the onus is on the consultancy team to organise and manage the live project within the specified time constraints. At the end of this module, participants? ability to communicate clearly, argue rationally, apply what has already been learned and operate effectively in an unfamiliar context will be enhanced. Personal Development and Career Advancement This module will: provide the opportunity for participants to evaluate their personal development add value by giving access to extra-curricular input sessions and guest lectures: and offer support in securing employment and possibly alternative careers for those who are already employed. The other key aspect to this module is the personal development focus, which aims to encourage the continual development, monitoring, review and evaluation of professional and personal development, which is very much at the heart of lifelong learning. Each participant will have a tutor who will provide additional guidance or may facilitate discussions with companies or other academics regarding specific areas of interest or requests. Induction The induction programme forms a core part of the early learning on the full-time Masters degrees in Management and provides the participants with the opportunity to establish bonds, make friends and work in teams in a safe residential setting before the formal start of the programme. The programme leader, programme director and administration support staff all participate in the team-building event during induction and this helps to quickly build up rapport with the students in an informal environment. How do you study? A variety of teaching methods is employed, including lectures, seminars, case studies, discussions, business simulations and group activities. As part of the programme, there is a comprehensive induction phase and a series of workshops run by careers advisers.
