Course Description
The MSc Investment Management is designed as a specialist programme aimed at graduate students wishing to pursue a career in the expanding financial services industry. The programme of study is designed to be more practical than that found in many traditional universities with less emphasis on the use of mathematical methods. For example, teaching makes use of the Reuters real-time financial database.

Overview
In the first semester, you will learn about theory and principles underpinning strategic management, as well as the linkages between major business functions and their role in international business and commerce. You’ll study a range of organisations to gain a practical understanding of how they manage their resources and operations, recruit and develop staff, set and monitor budgets, and adapt to change.
We’ll cover the basic principles of marketing – where students will have the opportunity to discuss and analyse key managerial decisions on formulating and executing international marketing activities by developing their knowledge and skills of marketing concepts including environmental analysis, buying behaviour, strategic market segmentation and more. This will be done through active case studies and practical examples.
In the second semester, you have an opportunity to tailor your studies to suit your interests or career aspirations. You may wish to delve deeper into the principles and application of human resource management in the international context or the complexity of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and how to implement and manage such systems effectively within the options of international human resource management or business process integration respectively. Within the core modules, we will learn about international leadership and management, global markets and entry strategies, international trade management, research methods as well as undertake workshops for the CMI module for which students can gain accreditation and a certificate in professional consultancy.
In your final semester, you can choose to spend time on a company internship, typically lasting eight to 12 weeks. In the past, we have supported students to take on business and product development roles in companies in the UK such as Aston Martin, Jaguar Land Rover to mention a few. There is also a further option of undertaking a self-organised placement or going through the normal dissertation route.
This course includes the Professional Development Module. Each of the participating postgraduate courses have an individually tailored version of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Professional Development module.
