Masters Degree , Anthropology

Course Description

Durham?s MSc in Medical Anthropology is the only master?s degree in medical anthropology within the UK to be offered by an integrated anthropology department, in which biological and sociocultural anthropologists work together. The MSc in Medical Anthropology reflects these diverse interests. Students may specialise in the socio-cultural aspects of medical anthropology in biological aspects, including evolutionary medicine andor in its applied aspects, including issues related to public health and community medicine. The programme aims to prepare students for doctoral research in medical anthropology, a career in medical anthropology, or to provide a new perspective for those already engaged in a health profession. The MSc is appropriate for students with a background in anthropology, health, or a related discipline. In addition to promoting the student?s knowledge with advanced subject coverage and research training in medical anthropology, the course aims to develop critical, analytical, interpretative, integrative and presentation skills and to provide an opportunity, through the dissertation, for the student to pursue and report original research under expert supervision.
