Course Description
This course is designed for graduate engineers who are working, or who intend to work, in the automotive industry. Students will learn a holistic, systems approach to vehicle design and manufacture. Graduates of the course have the ability to develop effective automotive engineering systems in terms of vehicle function and performance. Flexibility is one of the main advantages of this course it is available as both a full and part-time programme. Students of the part-time course are allowed up to 8 years to complete it. The course is comprised of some mandatory modules along with a wide range of electives, allowing you to gain relevant and in-depth knowledge in chosen areas. There are opportunities to study: Vehicle functional performance Vehicle systems analysis Vehicle platform engineering Systems safety and reliability engineering Vehicle dynamics Automotive control Powertrain engineering Design integrated manufacture Automotive materials ? an overview Manufacturing Systems Project module (Not all modules are available in any one academic year.) We also offer additional online study support to give our students an enhanced learning experience. Industry input into the course has always been a great benefit to our students. Our academic staff work with ?module champions? within industry to ensure the course content is in touch with the latest needs and developments in the automotive world. Our industrial partners also regularly deliver lectures to our MSc students. Students also benefit from our extensive laboratories and facilities including eight purpose-built engine test cells with Lotus and Caterpillar engines chassis dynamometer with CVS exhaust emission measurement and numerous instrumented test vehicles. The Department also owns a 30% scale wind tunnel a four-poster full vehicle road simulator a state-of-the-art 6-axis motion platform simulator, with a visual system and full vehicle acoustic (anechoic and reverberation) chambers. The expertise and variety available on this course allows students to develop unique transferable skills for the workplace, as well as an open-minded attitude to exploring new areas of knowledge in the future.
