Suitable for: graduates with a good degree in a relevant discipline or for those without the relevant formal qualifications who have at least two years? housing experience in a position of responsibility. Offers knowledge and expertise: in the understanding of housing policy and practice, to pursue a professional career in local authorities, housing associations, private and voluntary sector organisations, central government agencies or research organisations. Duration: One year full-time, or two years part-time. Assessment: is by a wide variety of methods, including group and individual work, essays, reports, projects, presentations and examinations. The aim is to provide students with varied opportunities to test their skills and demonstrate their capabilities. Course Description: The MSc in Housing is a challenging course, which provides a stimulating educational experience for those wishing to develop housing expertise as a basis for working in policy and research or other areas of related professional activity. The course aims to engage students with the complexities of housing problems and provide them with the range of skills required to become reflective and responsive practitioners. While overseas students are welcome to apply, a certain amount of knowledge of British systems will be assumed. The course is not geared towards those wishing to practice in developing countries. As well as academic staff, a range of people contribute to the lectures, seminars, workshops and project work that make up the programme including policy makers, housing practitioners, committee members, tenants and consultants. The teaching approach is progressive and varied, with emphasis placed on student contributions, collaborative group work and project work. Special features of this course: ? Recognised by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), which means that students successfully completing the programme are fully exempt from the examinations for the Professional Qualifications of the CIH and are eligible to become corporate members of the Institute after completing the practical experience requirements. ? Recognised by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) as a ?specialist? Masters for those who have completed at least a three-year RTPI-recognised undergraduate spatial planning degree, allowing completion of the RTPI?s educational requirements for membership. ? Recognised by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), allowing completion of the educational requirements for RICS membership. ? Involves cross-discipline learning as many modules are shared with students from other School MSc programmes. ? Enables the development of professional networks through studying with students from a wide range of organisations, attendance at the CIH Student Conference and the annual CIH Cymru conference.
