Course Description
Our MSc Governance and Policy degree offers students the opportunity to examine processes of governance and policy-making at a variety of levels, from local to international. Students can explore these issues in a cross-disciplinary way, making use of insights from politics, international relations, social policy, public administration and sociology. The MSc will comprise six modules and a dissertation. There are two core modules. Governance and Policy, will provide the conceptual underpinnings, critical perspectives, and empirical examples in relation to understanding the idea of governance and what it means for the design and delivery of public policy. The research methods core module will provide the methodological training necessary to complete the MSc dissertation. Students can then choose four optional modules from a wide range offered throughout the School, and will be able to specialise in particular areas or range broadly across various disciplines. Students with a strong quantitative background and a desire to become more methodologically sophisticated may choose to pursue deeper statistical or other research training. Details of the optional modules available in this programme can be found from our website. Optional modules can be chosen from demography, gerontology, international relations, politics, sociology, social statistics and social work.
