Course Description

This ESRC-recognised programme provides an opportunity to investigate current debates about the changing nature of global politics, and offers broad training in social science methods. Successful ESRC-funded students will be eligible for a further three years? funding for research leading to a PhD. Programme Structure Core modules: Global politics and international relations Qualitative methods Survey design methods Philosophy and methodology of politics and international relations Statistical data analysis Researching politics and international relations Optional modules: One module (for a full outline see http:www.southampton.ac.uksocscipoliticsstudy) please note that optional modules are run according to staff availability and student uptake A 12,500- to 15,000-word dissertation (MSc only) Assessment: Coursework andor examination students satisfactorily complete all taught units before being allowed to submit a dissertation leading to an MSc Entry requirements: Upper second-class honours degree (or higher) or equivalent Application procedure: University application form plus references Funding: ESRC studentships and School scholarships may be available (see http:www.southampton.ac.uksocscifunding) Career destinations: National and international governmental and non-governmental organisations academic and research institutions.
