Course Description

ET is an area of major economic and policy relevance in the UK and internationally. The major areas of environmental technology covered are renewable energy (especially wave and tide related), waste management (especially relating to organic matter, resource management and waste policy), ecodesign (includes product design and life cycle anaylsis) and environmental assessments. There is also the opportunity to develop skills in GIS, remote sensing, numerical environmental modelling and computer programming, which are relevant, for example in the study and management of contaminated land and pollution dispersal. Course Structure All modules are 20 credits students accumulate 180 credits over the course of the degree. Programmes are subject to regular review. Indicative content: Semester 1 Waste Management Plus one from Principles of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Environmental Policy and Technology Introduction to Programming for Environmental Modellers Semester 2 Research Design Plus one from Renewable Energy GIS and Remote Sensing Environmental Modelling Applied Project (Work placement) Industrial and Environmental Chemistry Reflective Practice (workplace based project for students in employment) Year long modules Ecodesign Environmental Assessment Summer Dissertation: 18,000 word limit The course includes site visits and talks by practitioners representing a range of environmental technologies. Suitable for a career in waste management, environmental management, environmental technology industry, environmental consultancy, or as preparation for a PhD. Bursaries are available competitively for UK, EU and overseas applicants. Closing date 31 July 2011.
