Course Description
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES To provide a concentrated one-year training in engineering geology and related geotechnical subjects to enable a graduate geologist andor engineer to work proficiently in engineering geology andor geotechnical engineering. COURSE STRUCTURE The course is planned jointly between the Schools of Earth Sciences and Civil Engineering and Department Mining and Mineral Engineering. Students are registered and provided with study accommodation in the School of Earth Sciences, but are encouraged to participate fully in appropriate colloquia and seminars in all three departments. The course begins on the last Monday in September and consists of: 2 terms of lectures and laboratory classes, approximately four months (May to September) of individual work leading to the submission of a dissertation early in September, supervised field practical work and site visits at appropriate times throughout the year, but largely undertaken during the first two terms, including the Easter vacation.
