Course Description
During this accelerated 2 year programme you will learn to produce and interpret medical images using sophisticated modalities such as X-rays, CT, Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Ultrasound, helping to diagnose the patient?s illness or to monitor the management of a disease process. There is a strong emphasis on radiographic anatomy and image recognition as well as the clinical skill and techniques required to produce high quality diagnostic images. This course is delivered through a combination of academic study and clinical education. Within the university setting, practical classes and clinical simulation sessions accompany traditional classroom lectures and online learning facilities, to provide a varied and interesting learning environment. An important part of the course is the clinical education programme, made up of five placements which are integrated across both years of the course. Placement sites extend across Grampian, Highland, Tayside, Perthshire, Fife, Orkney, Shetland, the Western Isles and other locations. Each student will rotate around a range of placements including major regional centres, district general hospitals, community hospitals and remote hospitals. Interview: All shortlisted applicants must attend a selection interview prior to the offer of a place on the course. Successful completion of medical screening, immunisation screening and criminal record check are required prior to commencement on the course. This course is not appropriate for qualified Diagnostic Radiographers who wish to undertake a postgraduate degree.
