THIS IS THE FIRST (THE FIELD IS ALSO KNOWN AS 'DANCE MOVEMENT THERAPY')(THE FIELD IS ALSO KNOWN AS 'DANCE MOVEMENT THERAPY' QUALIFYING COURSE IN DANCE MOVEMENT PSYCHOTHERAPY IN SCOTLAND AND THE FIRST MSC PROGRAMME IN DANCE MOVEMENT PSYCHOTHERAPY IN THE UK. THE FIELD IS ALSO KNOWN AS 'DANCE MOVEMENT THERAPY'. Entry Requirements: This course seeks students with a personal maturity commensurate with the expectations of a professional education. Successful applicants will have to meet the following entry requirements: - an undergraduate degree in relevant field of study or equivalent - continuous experience of at least one dance or movement form for a period of two years and exposure to, and experience of, a variety of dance and movement forms - an ability to improvise with confidence, use movement creatively, expressively and symbolically as well as relate and communicate through movement in both dyadic and group interactions - at least one year's relevant practical work experience (voluntary or paid) Applicants will benefit from seeking practical experience of Dance Movement Psychotherapy through workshops or foundation courses. Background reading and experience of personal therapy will offer valuable insight into the profession. Selection Procedures: Applicants are expected to attend a face-to-face interview and a movement audition. Interviewauditions will take place on specific dates, most likely in February, April and June. For those applying from outside the UK who are unable to attend interviewauditions, face to face contact can be replaced with a telephone interview and a DVDvideo recording of the applicant's movement work. Further information will become available on application. Dance Movement Psychotherapy is a movement-based therapy in which the client-therapist relationship plays a central role. The professional Association for Dance Movement Psychotherapy UK defines the field as: the psychotherapeutic use of movement and dance through which a person can engage creatively in a process to further their emotional, cognitive, physical and social integration (ADMP UK, 2007 p1). The practice of Dance Movement Psychotherapy is restricted to registered practitioners who work with individuals and groups, predominantly in education, health, prisons, social services and other community-based settings (eg voluntary and private organisations). Dance Movement Psychotherapy is provided to a wide range of clients of all ages. It is a treatment modality for people who are emotionally distressed, who experience physical or mental illness, and for those with physical andor cognitive impairment as well as people who seek personal growth. The MSc Dance Movement Psychotherapy at Queen Margaret University is a course with an international ethos that aims to facilitate students in their development of culturally sensitive. Dance Movement Psychotherapy skills, techniques and approaches including the use of advanced movement observation and analysis tools enables graduates, through reflective practice: - to make sound clinical decisions and offer appropriate justifications for these decisions which are firmly rooted in principles of evidence-based practice and responsive to diverse client needs - to recognise the value of life-long personalprofessional development The course places equal emphasis on academic studies, experiential learning and supervised clinical placements, and encourages students to integrate all components through dance and movement work in order to achieve a comprehensive learning experience. Structure: The course can be studied on a full-time or a part-time basis. In all cases, there is an expectation for students to attend sessions at the University as well as engage in clinical placement. Placements are located in at least two contrasting settings.
