Course Description

The course is for professionals in construction, law and related fields who wish to develop their expertise in construction law and dispute resolution, for practical or academic purposes. The structure and content of the course is designed to satisfy the examination requirements of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators through to Fellowship level for both their Adjudication and Arbitration Pathways. Modules Construction law principles A contextual approach to the study of law, directed towards its application to the management of commercial relationships in construction. Arbitration: law, practice & award writing The legal, practical and procedural aspects of arbitration including award writing. Adjudication: law, practice & decision writing Relevant common and statute law, and practice of adjustication including decision writing. Law & practice of claims Including documentation, demonstration of causation and presentation of claims. Commercial mediation The practice and procedure pf mediation particularly as it related to construction disputes. Future opportunities The course provides the academic training that is essential for construction and legal professionals wishing to develop a career in adjudication, arbitration, mediation or as a dispute resolution or claims consultant. It is particularly designed for those involved in the construction industry but many of the dispute resolution skills that are developed are transferable to other industries. The knowledge and skill acquired on this course are in high demand in the construction industry and graduates often find promotion or new employment opportunities open to them with associated increased earning potential.
