Masters Degree , Building Services Engineering
Course Description
This course is approved by CIBSE and the Energy Institute and accredited by the IMechE. COURSE AIMS The aim of this programme is firstly to respond to the worldwide demand for building services engineers and managers who have a sound knowledge of engineering principles and the ability to apply this knowledge to the complex situations prevailing within the building services industry. In addition, in recent years it has become increasingly recognised that the design and operation of buildings need to take greater account of energy consumption. For example, the Government?s white paper ?Our Energy Future - Creating A Low Carbon Economy? states, ?Policies to raise the energy efficiency of products and buildings will have an important role.? One of the explicit strategies identified in the paper is the achievement of higher standards within new and existing buildings. Finally, by 2006 the EU Directive on the Energy Performance of Buildings must be implemented this will require a declaration of the energy performance and increased attention to the continued improvement in performance. Consequently, there is a growing need for building services engineering professionals with understanding of the means to reduce the reliance on non-sustainable energy. This MSc programme aims to fulfil both challenges faced by building services engineers.
