Course Description
The programme consists of core research training modules designed to equip students with the expertise necessary to work at the cutting edge of a modern bioscience sector - including research planning exercises, methodologies underpinning modern bioscience and computer programming. Added to this is an independent research project in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology and substantial specialist training will be achieved through this project. There may be opportunities for students to undertake research projects in industry or academic labs abroad. Taught specialist modules will include Computational Biology of Genes and Proteins and Computational Biology of Genomic Systems. On completion of the course students should be able to write bioinformatics software (including WWW applications), implement algorithms, construct data models, design databases, use commonly available software for the analysis of biomolecular sequences and structures , interpret the results and use methods from specialised areas of informatics for genomic systems.
