Course Description
University of CambridgeWellcome TrustGlaxoSmithKline MPhil (Masters) PGDip in Translational Medicine and Therapeutics (TMAT) (1 year Full-time, or 2 years Part-time) The University of Cambridge invites applications for a limited number of spaces for this new Masters courseor PG Dip. This is a part-taught, part-project course designed to meet the needs of a wide range of science and medicine graduates, at various career stages, who wish training in ?translating science into medicines?. It is a free-standing part of the TMAT academic training programme, co-funded by the Wellcome Trust and GSK. The distinguished multidisciplinary faculty from academia and industry provide the seminar teaching in terms 1 and 3, and supervise the research projects in term 2 of the MPhil course. Core Modules: Module One: Basic Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology Module Two: Basic Statistics and Medical Statistics Module Three: Clinical Drug Development and Pharmacogenetics Module Four: Biomarker Discovery and use and Funding and Presentation Module Five: Research Ethics and Governance and Epidemiology Additional seminars These will cover hot topics and the emerging technologies associated with drug development and disease biomarkers including therapeutic areas such as vasculitis, obesity, metabolic disorders, hypertension and atherosclerosis, endothelial dysfunction, metabalomics, bloodomics right through high throughput genetic screening and clinical trial design and practice.
