Course Description
We offer two progression routes to the MSc Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapies. Alternatively you can chose to study to level 1, the Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert), or complete one of our level 2 Postgraduate Diplomas (PgDip). The two progression routes are related but differ in their emphasis and placement opportunities. The route that includes the PgDip Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapies is designed for individuals with a health background, including those who work in the NHS and other healthcare settings, who wish to teach mindfulness-based cognitive therapy in the health service placements will be in healthcare settings. The route that includes the PgDip Mindfulness-Based Approaches has been developed for individuals from a non-health background, for example those who work in education, voluntary or forensic settings this route will include engagement with tutors from a broader base who may work in non-healthcare settings and the placements will similarly be within non-healthcare settings. Entry Requirements Postgraduate Certificate in MBCT ? A first degree in Psychology or related topic at similar level ? Requisite personal and interpersonal qualities Postgraduate Diploma in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapies ? To progress onto the Postgraduate Diploma Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapies you must have successfully completed the Postgraduate Certificate MBCT ? A healthmental health professional qualification (at degree level or equivalent) andor UKCP or BAC accredited counsellorspsychotherapists andor complementary health practitioners with appropriate certification requisite for practice as a health care practitioner ? At least 2 years of post-qualification healthmental health experience ? Some relevant experience as a group facilitator ? A personal mindfulness practice including experience of participation in teacher-led mindfulness meditation retreats ? Requisite personal and interpersonal qualities ? Basic CBT knowledge and skills ? Ideally we would like students who are established psychological therapists working in health care settings and who are committed to developing as MBCT teachers andor clinical researchers Postgraduate Diploma in Mindfulness-Based Approaches ? To progress onto the Postgraduate Diploma Mindfulness-Based Approaches you must have successfully completed the Postgraduate Certificate MBCT ? Knowledge of the populations to which the mindfulness-based approach will be delivered, including experience of teaching, theraputic or other care provision with groups and individuals ? Some relevant experience as a group facilitator ? A personal mindfulness practice including experience of participation in teacher-led mindfulness meditation retreats ? In some settings it will be appropriate for applicants to be expected to have a professional qualification with appropriate certification requisite for practice. For example, a teacher wishing to apply mindfulness in schools would be expected to have appropriate teaching qualifications and classroom experience. This will vary depending on the context in which the qualification is envisaged to be used. MSc in MBCT ? To progress onto the MSc you must have successfully completed the Postgraduate Certificate in MBCT and with the Postgraduate Diploma in MBCT or the Postgruadate Diploma in Mindfulness-Based Approaches.
