Course Description
Suitable for: graduates in language-related disciplines. Entry requirements: First or second class UK Honours degree, or equivalent. Minimum IELTS score of 7.0 overall for applicants whose first language is not English. Offers knowledge and expertise: in language and law. It should be noted that this course is not vocational, and that subsequent work opportunities are not guaranteed. Nevertheless, recent graduates have found employment within the legal and judicial system, including the 999 Emergency Call Service, the Police Force, the Prison Service and the Civil Service (Home Office), with others going on to further training as barristerssolicitors. On successful completion of the course, it is also possible to go on to higher level doctoral research in forensic linguisticslanguage and law, or other areas of applied linguistics, sociolinguistics or human communication. Course Description: A full-time modular programme with taught courses over two semesters (PG Diploma or for the MA, Stage 1), followed by a supervised dissertation (for the MA, Stage 2) of between 14,000 and 20,000 words, to be completed between May and September. Assessment of the taught component is by coursework only. A one-semester PG Certificate option is also offered.
