Course Description
This newly-developed course offers a unique combination of area of study and is designed to appeal to a broad range of practitioners including traditional puppeteers, 3D animators and games developers. Students explore the synergies and differences between puppetry, object theatre and digital animation, as well as the key themes common to both traditional and modern practice. Analysis and interrogation of the character of both live and mediated arenas is central to this degree, allowing students to explore international differences in the theory of and approaches to both puppetry and digital animation. Staff involved in the delivery of this course are experts and practitioners from the areas of specialist puppetry, object theatre and digital animation. Access to theatre design workshops and studios, a working theatre space and full digital editing suites form the backdrop to students' project development. Key subject area covered during this course include: ? The study and possibilities of movement through objects with consideration of stop-frame and digital techniques ? The personality and emotions of materials: How to enable the animator to develop character ? Techniques of puppetry ? Exploration of the boundaries between the real and the virtual ? Digital animation practice ? Consideration of traditional and contemporary practice
