Course Description

Overview The Production Design course offers one of the few opportunities internationally to focus on this field in post graduate study. It is intended to develop the traditional and technological skills needed for entry into the industry while also encouraging students to challenge established conventions in their work. The course programme is carefully designed to utilise existing areas of expertise in a related discipline and add those required for professional practice. As Production Design can involve creative elements ranging from drawn visuals to computer generated models, students are drawn from a wide variety of disciplines forming a stimulating group that is able to share both ideas and skills. Teaching Staff are all specialists in their area of design. The course programme uses a wide range of teaching and learning cultures to stimulate creative development with one to one tutorials designed to foster critical thought and self management. Emphasis is placed on self analysis based on feedback from staff and peer-interaction, both of which are an integral part of the structure of the course. As students progress through the programme, the course modules allow for increasing periods of self directed time and independent study. Course structure The programme combines a progressively more complex and related sequence of postgraduate modules of study, where each module is weighted according to the length and demands of study. Credit points are given for the satisfactory completion of a module and are separate from an assessment mark or comment for the same work.
