Course Description

Suitable for: aspiring journalists, mid-career practitioners and graduates wishing to deepen their understanding of journalism. Offers knowledge and expertise: for a career in the international media or in related fields. Course Description: The taught component of the course amounts to 120 credits. Students complete this across two semesters (Autumn and Spring) from the end of September to the beginning of June. Students are then required to submit a dissertation at the end of August. The dissertation carries 60 credits. This degree offers practical journalism, but remains an academic Masters degree. The practical working environment within the degree aims to deepen professional knowledge and challenge understandings. You will study the following areas: ? Information Gathering and Analysis I and II, covering investigative journalism techniques and academic research methods. ? International News Production I and II (with pathways in Broadcasting, Magazine, Newspaper and Documentary). ? Foreign News Reporting. Optional modules include: Media Law New Media and Politics Reporting Business, Finance and Economics Insurgency into the 21st Century Global Crisis Reporting In the Editor?s Chair International Relations for Journalists Reporting Health and Science Development Communications. Special features of this course: ? Attracts international students wanting to strengthen the journalistic competence in their own countries. ? Provides a richness of exposure (through the multicultural nature of the student body) to comparative international media practices. ? Suited to journalists wanting a period of reflection and study about the practice of 21st century journalism.
