Course Description
NTU is one of the leading UK providers of fashion knitwear education. The School's outstanding international reputation is based on its investment in advanced knitting technology. MA students are encouraged to enhance existing skills in the design and construction of knitted fashion products through experimentation and innovation. Fashion Knitwear Design itegrates and develops the practice of traditional knitwear processes using a range of hand flat and domestic machinery, while encouraging new technological approaches. It focuses on the development of 2D designs into prototypes and 3D products. Students explore the creative, technological and commercial options available to the contemporary fashion knitwear designer, through research into existing and new technologies, local and global trends and innovations within the industry. An introduction to Shima and Stoll CAD and CAM technologies is available to students, who can then choose to fully integrate these processes into their practice as required. Subject areas covered during this course include: ? Generic and specialised lectures on research methods ? Reserach into contemporary and historical fashion knitwear ? Workshop inductions including domestic knitting machines and power knitting machines ? CAD, 2D and 3D design workshops ? Specialist industry lectures ? Portfolio development workshops
