Course Description

Logistics is concerned with the movement and storage of raw material, components and finished goods, and with information flows that link the organisations in a supply system. The goods that are distributed to customers at the retail-end of the supply chain are created in complex networks of interconnected businesses. Success in the marketplace depends on managing these network relationships through activities such as purchasing and e-business, and managing your suppliers well. ? This masters will provide you with an exciting blend of logistics, purchasing, e-business, supply-chain information systems, consultancy and industrial experience making for a uniquely relevant and enjoyable learning experience. ? You will gain a working understanding of supply chain information systems by using SAP?s enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and by studying e-business from a purchasing perspective. ? You will partake in consultancy workshops and use knowledge acquired on the course to solve real business problems through a live consultancy project. ? The course includes an industrial visit to a manufacturing plant and logistics facility. Who is the course for? This course is intended for recent graduates in subjects with a quantitative element, and, for people with significant relevant work experience who are qualified to degree or equivalent level, for example professional qualifications. Examples of relevant first degrees include business, accountancy, engineering, economics, computing and social sciences. Sales and operations planning Course Overview The taught elements of the course are delivered from October to June and students who wish to complete their studies within 12 months must complete the dissertation over the summer. You will complete the course by undertaking either a dissertation where you can decide your own research topic, or a work placement and work placement report. Students who complete a work placement are required to hand-in their final report in March of their second year, and under current UK legislation, international students may extend their student visa to cover this period. Students on the dissertation route may also choose to submit their final dissertation report in March of the second year, as shown on the standard route of the course diagram.
