Course Description

The course addresses various issues within the construction industry including the use of adjudication and arbitration as other forms of dispute resolution methods and taking both an international and national approach to construction and arbitral issues. These can include confi dentiality of arbitral proceedings and award, impartiality and independence of arbitrators and gathering of evidence in international commercial arbitration. Arbitral Laws and Rules like English Arbitration Act, Scotland Arbitration Act, UNICTRAL Rules and UNICTRAL Model Laws, International Chambers of Commerce Rules, New York Conventions are also examined. This course is delivered via our online virtual learning environment (Campus Moodle) allowing you to interact effectively with lecturers and colleagues alongside accessing a wide variety of online resources. Classes are small, simulating the traditional classroom environment. Course materials are uploaded for you to read and later discuss with lecturers. You will be working on both small group based activities as well as individual assignments. Interactivity is a key component in this course and has been specifically designed with the busy professional in mind. The course is delivered through lectures, tutorials, online activity work, practical work, student centered learning and private study. This course is CIArb and RICS accredited providing our graduates with industry recognition of their knowledge and skills in dispute resolution, ensuring the highest quality teaching in conjunction with industry standards and guidelines, based upon the latest thinking from leading practitioners. Completing the Arbitration route will also give you exemption from Membership or Fellowship examinations from the CIArb. Furthermore, all graduates of the course satisfy the academic requirements for chartered membership of RICS and are academically qualified to enrol on the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence (APC).
