Course Description

Birmingham Law School has an international reputation for its research and teaching in commercial law. This programme enables you to develop expertise in a range of commercial law subjects. Commerce and trade exert some of the most powerful influences on human activity and commercial relationships reflect a constantly evolving world. The ingenuity of traders and the complexity of modern commerce is truly astonishing. The study of Commercial Law provides an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in this important and fascinating area of law. You follow a modular programme (180 credits), which comprises four taught modules (30 credits each) and a dissertation of 15,000 words (60 credits) to be submitted at the end of the year of study. Students choose four modules from the list below and write a dissertation on an aspect of commercial law. Students can also choose to study one of their four modules from the lists of the other LLM programmes. In Part I you take 3 or 4 of the following modules: Agency and Domestic Sale of Goods Commercial Conflict of Laws English Law of International Sale of Goods Financing of International Trade Health and Safety at Work Law Marine Insurance Maritime Law If you choose only 3 from the list above, you may choose any module from the General LLM list. In Part II of the programme, you write a dissertation of 15,000 words on any approved Commercial Law topic falling with the subjects offered.

 

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have a good Honours degree in law, or a degree in another discipline augmented with a pass in the Common Professional Examination.
