Free Standing Maths Qualification 6981 Free Standing Maths Qualification FSMQ (AQA 6981) What does the course involve? If you are hoping to do GCSE Maths in the future but you didn't do very well first time round then this is the course for you. You need to have a GCSE Maths grade of F or G to do this course. During the year you will study a Free Standing Maths Unit based on Statistics while building up your basic maths skills ready to tackle GCSE Maths the following year. The course is a mix of exams and coursework. It tests how you can use maths in practical situations. As well as using a calculator you will learn how to enter data and do calculations on the computer. You will also have to collect, analyse and interpret your own data. Specific Content Making Sense of Data. This unit will include: Order and organise data Draw graphs of data pairs Draw statistical diagrams Calculate statistical measures How will I be assessed? You will sit a 1 hour exam for Making Sense of Data. The exam will include some questions based on a data sheet that you will get about two weeks before the exam. You will have the opportunity to discus the information contained in the data sheet in class and answer practice questions based on the data before going into the exam. As well as the exam which counts for 50% of your mark, you will have to produce a number of pieces of coursework for the unit. Some of these will be done on the computer; some using a calculator and some can be handwritten. You will get a grade for the module, A being the highest pass grade and E the lowest.
