Course Description

Electrical Installation C&G 2330 Certificate Level 2 City and Guilds 2330 Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology Level 2 1 Year Programme Introduction This one-year programme is designed for all students who wish to enter the Electrical Contracting Industry. This course is the Level 2 Technical Certificate that is required as part of becoming a qualified Electrican. The course offers skills and knowledge in all aspects of Electrical Installation Engineering. The course is approximately 2 days a week for the duration of one year. It consists of approximately 50% theory and 50% practical work at the college. Entry Requirements What will I study? The course combines lectures, directed study, workshop activities and simulated jobs in the college. The emphasis is on skills training along with a good theoretical knowledge. This combination ensures that candidates can work both competently and safely. The course covers: Unit 1 (201) Working Effectively and Safely in the Electrotechnical Environment Unit 2 (202) Principles of Electrotechnology Unit 3 (203) Application of Health and Safety and Electrotechnical Principles Unit 4 (205) Installation (Buildings and Structures) Key Skills: Key skills are the skills taht are commonly needed for success in a range of activities in education and training, work and life in general. Application of Number Communication Information Technology How will I be assessed? The City and Guilds 2330 is assessed by externally set multi-choice examination. There will be a total of 4 multi-choice exams, one for each unit studied, that will be taken during the year. There are also 2 practical assignments that must be completed in order to pass 2 of the 4 units. These are undertaken within the College's Electrical Installation Workshop and are assessed against externally set criteria. Career Prospects/Progression On successful completion of City and Guilds 2330 Level 2 you can progress onto: City and Guilds 2330 Level 3 course (Part-time Day Release over 1 year) In order to fully qualify as an Electrician you will have to successfully complete the Technical Certificate at Level 3, an NVQ3 qualification and key skills in Application of Number, Communications and IT. The NVQ3 qualification can also be undertaken but a work placement is required. Tools, Materials and Text Books You will need the 'Requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671:2008 (ISBN 978-0-86341-844-0 approximately 65), 'On-Site-Guide' to BS7671:2008 (ISBN 978-0-86341-854-9 approximately 18) and 'Electrical Installation Level 2 2330 Technical Certificate' (ISBN 978-0435401-09-2 approximately 22). You will need to provide your own pens, paper, folder, and scientific calculator. It will be necessary to provide your own tools for use in practical workshop sessions. These must meet a minimum set of safety criteria, the college has an arrangement with one of the local electrical suppliers to provide a tool kit meeting these criteria. This tool kit can be purchased for an approximate cost of 100. It is also essential that you provide your own overalls and safety shoes , without which no practical work can be undertaken. There will also be a charge for materials of approximately 65.00 Fees Under 19 as at 31st August - Free Over 19 as at 31st August and enrolling on a full programme of study- 470 or 430 if paid in full at the time of enrolment. Fees for studying any individual subject as a day student available on request. If you are in receipt of a qualifying means tested benefit, or you are an unwaged dependant thereof, the fee is reduced to 100. No further reduction is available on this reduced fee.
