If you are looking for sound practical knowledge of animal management and a qualification that is held in high regard by all sectors within the animal care industry, this could be the course for you. The 18'unit BTEC National Diploma offers a great breadth of study in Animal Care. The course prepares students well for employment. Within the 18 units students will have every opportunity to develop their skills in caring for a wide variety of animals and their varying environments. What qualifications will I need? Four GCSEs at Grade C or above (including English language, Science and Maths), or a First Diploma at Distinction level, including distinction in Biology. NVQ level 2, Intermediate GNVQ or BTEC National Certificate. Recent experience in an animal care establishment is essential. What will I be learning about? Animal biology Animal anatomy and physiology Animal nursing Exotics Breeding and genetics Aquatics Animal welfare and breed development Animal health Animal nutrition Practical animal handling Kennel and cattery management Investigative project Work experience Principles of ecology Wildlife and rehabilitation Environmental interpretation Animal behaviour Farm livestock What is involved? Two years at Kingston Maurward, with industrial experience in an animal care business. Lectures, demonstrations, practical instruction, industrial visits and study tours. 4 days at College with 1 day a week for private study. Where will it take me? Position of responsibility in the animal care industry, kennel and cattery supervisor, animal sanctuary supervisor, pet store manager, animal welfare officer, animal park supervisor, trainee veterinary nurse. What else does the course include? NPTC ' Welfare of Livestock Certificate NPTC ' Safe Use of Veterinary Medicines First Aid at Work BHS Horse Owner Certificate Level 1 What materials are required? Practical clothing (polo shirts and sweatshirts available at College) is necessary at all times to include steel toe'capped safety boots, waterproofs, overalls. Basic stationery. Tetanus protection is recommended. What is next? Foundation Degree in Animal Management. Veterinary Care Assistants. How will I be assessed? A range of continuous assessments including written assignments, practical tests and externally set assessments. How much will it cost? ?499 Full Time Further Education Your learning is FREE if you are a UK or EU student, aged under 19 years on 31st August in the academic year you start your course.
