Course Description
Course suitability People employed within the beauty therapy industry wishing to further their studies within this field. The Foundation Degree Advanced Practices will enhance students learning through the engagement of this level of study through study specific skills. Knowledge and experience gained in the workplace will be assessed and accredited using the foundation degree framework. Entry qualifications At least 60 points e.g a completion of a level 3 qualification such as A levels, Advanced Apprenticeships, Btecs or NVQ level 3. You must have 4 GCSEs at grade C or above including maths and english (or equivalent first diploma NVQ level 2) You do not always need to have formal qualifications for entry onto a Foundation degree. Your past experiences, achievements and desire to learn are taken into account Information about the course The Beauty Therapy industry has undergone rapid changes and growth in the last ten years changes which have brought with them increased demands on the employee with the expectation of a higher level of qualification. The Foundation Degree is offered in partnership with the University of Hertfordshire and covers the academic and vocational skills. The course provides the opportunity for experienced health and beauty therapists along with newly qualified therapists to achieve a Higher Education qualification whilst working. The programme is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required for success in employment or for progression to the final year of an appropriate honours degree. Students will acquire transferable skills which will enable them to meet the challenges of an evergrowing industry. UCAS CODE B391 Course content All students will study over a period of two years. The modules relate to beauty therapy practices, science, marketing and business and employability skills. Science Programmes Study of the human body in relation to the beauty therapy industry and beauty therapy practices. There is the opportunity for the student to make their own cosmetic product. To study the chemical composition of cosmetics, toiletry and perfume products. The student will be able to select and use research to identify features and benefits of a range of products Advanced Therapy Practices To consider a variety of practices around spa therapies, aromatherapy, reflexology, global spa treatments and advanced practices for example micro dermabrasion, La Stone therapy and differing massage techniques Business and Marketing To provide the opportunity for engagement in planning activities for a marketing campaign to explore business planning in relation to beauty therapy Assessment A combination of both coursework and examination. The main focus of assessment will be on coursework which could take the form of written assignments and reports, practical assessments and case studies. Progression If you are successful and want to continue your studies, you can progress to the University of Hertfordshire to the second or final year of a BA or BSc Honours degree programme, depending on the subject area you choose.
