Course Description

Information about the course Awarding Body and Name of Qualification University of Hertfordshire Sure Start Recognised Early Years Sector-Endorsed Foundation Degree. The Sure Start Recognised Early Years Sector-Endorsed Foundation Degree is a part-time course aimed at experienced practitioners who wish to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of children in their early years (0-8) in the statutory, voluntary, private and not-for-profit sectors. The programme has been devised in collaboration with consortium Colleges and the University of Herefordshire to enable students to progress onto the University's BA Honours Degree in Education Studies, upon successful completion of the course. Students can use their BA Honours Degree for application to a PGCE or the Graduate Teacher or Early Years Professional Status providing they fulfil the criteria for these programmes. Course content Breakdown of courseprogramme by module: Starting with the Child: Advanced Child Development Legal and Professional Responsibilities Work-based module 1 and 2 Personal and Professional skills Leadership and Management Curriculum frameworks 0-8 years Professional Diversity and Common Goals. When will I receive my results? Results will be forwarded on as soon as they are received at the college. Please note that certificates, where awarded, can take up to 4 months to be received at the college before forwarding on to learners. Delivery Classroom based Workshop based Work-based learning. Assessment Continuous Assessment PortfolioWorkplace Assessment Assessment: A range of methods will be used, including assignments, case studies, essays, reports, practical exercises and presentations. In general, a problem solving, work related approach is used. Workplace assessment is an integral part of the programme. Assessments are carefully spread through the two years of the programme. There are no external examinations. Progression Progression: What they can do next ? a) course b) employment Students can progress on to the final level of the BA(Honours) Education Studies at the University of Hertfordshire. If a student has the appropriate additional qualifications they can apply for a PGCE course or EYPS at the end of their BA studies. As graduates, students will have a range of career options available to them in the Early Years state, private and voluntary sector.
