Course Description

Chemistry AS/A Level Science, Psychology & Engineering Board and Syllabus details Board: OCR - Syllabus: AS Level (H034), A Level (H434) About the subject Chemistry is a subject of great importance to the nation and the world, increasingly so as green issues become more important along with meeting the challenge of developing and manufacturing new drugs, medicines and special materials needed for the new technologies. AS and A Level Chemistry is suitable for students who: have an interest in and enjoyment of chemistry enjoy using experimental work to further their understanding enjoy a logical approach to learning want to use chemistry to support other subjects or progress onto further studies Learning Styles Chemistry is the in depth study of atoms and molecules and the elements and compounds that are made from them. It includes descriptive material, calculations and problem solving exercises. Homework and tests are set on a regular basis to ensure that effective learning is taking place. Practical work is a regular part of the course and is assessed internally through tasks set by the examination board. Subject combinations and progression The full A level is usually essential for further study in Chemistry, Biology, Medicine, Veterinary Science, Pharmacy and other related subjects. It combines well with Biology, Maths, Physics, Geography, Geology, Environmental Science, and can also be studied with non-science subjects.
