Course Description
Get your career ready for take-off with our exciting new course. You will study for a highly focused aviation management degree while training for a ‘frozen’ Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL), the highest licence you can obtain as a commercial pilot.
On graduation and following completion of your external full flight training, you will have both an honours degree in a specialised field and an ATPL. This unusual balance of practical and theoretical skills is highly sought-after by global aviation industry employers.
Another standout aspect of this course is the selection of elective activities we offer via our partners, which cover bespoke simulator sessions, employability skills and commercial insights.
Course Content
This course was put together with input from a range of aviation professionals and takes into account changes happening in the industry right now.
As the tourism business expands, fATPL-qualified pilots are in demand. Boeing alone predicts it will need 100,000 new pilots across Europe over the next two decades. So there are plenty of opportunities for you to enter the industry.
You will also be graduating with a degree in aviation management from a School with links to more than 400 companies and employers, which broadens your opportunities across the sector.
Commercial pilot training
An ATPL is the qualification that will allow you to act as the Pilot in Command (PIC), or captain, of a large transport aircraft. The licence is referred to as ‘frozen’ until all the flight experience requirements have been met.
You will choose where you take your flight training from our list of accredited Approved Training Organisations (ATOs), which includes Booker Aviation. We have partnered with a number of airline providers, who offer a range of flight training packages.
Some ATOs allow you to complete part of your ATPL flying hours overseas – in Cyprus, Portugal and the United States. If you do choose to do flight training in a location outside of the UK, you will have to make sure that you have the necessary documentation, including passport and visa.
You will also be able to choose an option from the elective activities offered through our partner, TurnPoint Aviation, including:
- half- and full-day insight to commercial airline operations
- bespoke full-motion four-hour Airbus simulator session
- advanced employability course with a focus on pilot competencies at the British Airways Global Learning Academy.
