University of West London

Bachelor Degree , Acting

Course Description

Master the art of professional acting and set your sights for the stage or screen with this course, which offers training that is both exhilarating and exacting.

With the help of leading practitioners, many of whom still work in the profession, you will study a variety of acting styles and be able to critically assess the art form from different perspectives.

In fact, you will experience the best of both academic and thespian worlds at the University of West London. You will learn all the skills you would expect of a top drama school, such as acting for Chekhov and Shakespeare, accent work, singing, mask, improvisation, movement, acting for camera and full-scale productions with professional directors, and at the same time you get a rounded university experience with great facilities, extensive support and a real community atmosphere.

Throughout the course, you will have access to flexible performance spaces and professional theatre venues, as well as rehearsal rooms. In your third year, you will have the opportunity to perform in three full-scale productions, including an agents’ showcase in the West End.

Course Content

Our acting course goes beyond training, providing depth and context to everything that you study. Our degree will help you to become a self-reflective practitioner – an artist who can think, write and create their own work.

During this course you will undertake exciting and demanding training in professional acting. The main focus of this will include the practical skills, knowledge and experience you need to enter the acting industry.

In addition to acting, you will study:

  • voice
  • movement
  • singing
  • mask work
  • accent/dialects
  • acting through song
  • audition technique
  • acting for camera.

This will ensure that when you graduate you will have had the opportunity to perform within all styles of theatrical performance.

Your studies will help you to understand acting as an art, as well as to assess your own development as an artist.

You will be encouraged to critically assess the global influence of acting as an art form.

Throughout your course, including on your three major performance projects, you will be learning from leading practitioners, many of whom work actively within the profession.
