Course Description
The course is designed to provide a structured professional development pathway for postgraduate physiotherapists and occupational therapists with a specialist interest and experience in the field of neurological rehabilitation. It will enable you to develop a comprehensive and critical understanding of evidence-based clinical practice and the skills to implement this in diverse settings within neurological rehabilitation. Key features of the course are inter-professional collaboration, user involvement and flexible study. What you study The pathway is made up of core modules, specialist modules and an option module. The core modules focus on evidence-based practice and research, and include the opportunity to carry out an independent research study. The three specialist modules explore diverse clinical and practice issues in neurological rehabilitation. You will choose an option module in an area of special interest and of particular relevance to the context in which you are working. How you learn A variety of teaching methods will be used including lectures, seminars, debates, small group work, tutorials and practical skills-based work. Learning and teaching strategies will help you to relate theory to practice issues critically, and to develop as a self-directed, independent learner. The core modules are delivered on a weekly basis (one afternoon per week) and may also be available online (subject to discussion with the module leader). Each specialist module will involve attendance at two teaching blocks (two days each) which are separated by a period of self-directed study. Learning resources include work books, group work, the virtual learning environment and facilitation from the module team. External lecturers from specialist areas within the field of rehabilitation will contribute to delivery of the modules. At the beginning of the course you will be assigned a personal tutor who will provide support through tutorial meetings face to face during taught study blocks and via email.
